Witold Szabłowski is a Polish journalist writing for the Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza and Duży Format (Wyborcza’s supplement specializing in reportage). He will stay in Lublin in January 2012 as part of the Citybooks project. On 22 July 2011, together with his wife and daughter, he traveled in time to the year 1981 to yet again taste the life of the Polish People’s Republic. Life without the Internet or espresso machines but with long queues to buy food and other articles. All that seems quite unreal to us today, and yet that was everyday life for all Polish people not so long ago.
