Charleroi – an intriguing city, its industrial past still being present in the appearance of its streets and, more importantly, in its inhabitants life stories. The city is still dealing with the consequences of the fall of the coal mining industry that used to thrive in Wallonia and is engaging in new projects to bring the region back to life. The artists who will visit Charleroi from July to December 2011 are authors writing in French, from Belgium Caroline Thomas and Lamarche Gunzig, writer and journalist Pascal Verbeken and poet Erik Lindner. For the Italian writer, Davide Longo, writing a citybook in Charleroi was the second work he created for the project after taking part in citybooks Utrecht. The photographer responsible for portraying Charleroi is a young Flemish artists Sander Buyck.
